CHRISTOPHER HOUGHTON

As a former BTEC student, I find that I’m easily able to work in a range of media, from paint to video. At the moment, my current practice is a mixture of live art, video, installation, and sculpture.

The work I’m creating currently looks at elements of human life, as I enjoy working with the human form. The influences I use to build my current sculptures are taken from artists and events that over exaggerate the body, such as Mardi Gras and Tim Burton films.

I choose to work in installation as well as sculpture as I am open to utilising the best medium for my ideas. Installation pieces are useful to show complex ideas through the creation of scenes to tell stories; however, it is not always obvious as audience participation is important to my work. I allow the audience to investigate and explore the works, stories, and meanings for themselves.

Sculptures from 'A Series of Jest', 2012.
